NCI Certification obtains Approved Self Assessment

For a moment the roles where reversed. Normally we conduct the audits, now we were audited. Just as our clients we as a certifying organisation need to comply with the demands of your clients if we want to qualify for a tender. Passing the Approved Self Assessement (ASA) was one of them. We can now proudly say we passed with flying colours.

It is our mission to create world in which people work on improving safety, healty, quality, sustainability and the environment. We can achieve this by auditing our customers but also by looking at ourselfs. Are we on the right track or are there still thing to improve? 52 employees filled in the Self Assessment Questionnaire en thereby gave us the answer to those questions.

We can now actively and enthusiastically proceed with the plan of action and the GAP analysis we made as a result of the Approved Self Assessment. It might sound like ‘I am Hanneke de Vries and I approve this message’ we we really reccomend the ASA. It is like looking in the mirror. It gives you the opportunity to lift up your safety and health culture.

Is your company ready to pick up the mirror or do you have any questions? We are happy to help you. You can find more information on our website or contact us.

SCI Netherlands stops; NCI Certification offers acquisition of the certificates

Because of changes in the branche and cooperation with Socotec Certification UK Ltd SCI Netherlands has decided to cease all their activities from January 1st 2022. NCI Certification and SCI Netherlands have a similar work method. SCI Nethersland therefore thinks NCI Certification is the perfect transparant and practical partner to take over the current certifications.

In the period to come NCI Certification will provide the customers of SCI Netherlands with non-binding offers. After agreeing with a new agreement, NCI Certification takes over the certification and they will carry out the already planned audit. The already known and planned auditors of SCI are used as much as possible.

NCI Certification congratulates Voet Verhuur with their ISO 27001 certificate

The rental of aggregates, battery packs and transformer stations doesn’t immediately make you think about ISO 27001 and data security. Because quality and service matter to Voet Energy Solutions, they invested in this certification. John and Rick Voet accepted the certificate proudly.

Their auditor is positive as well: “By giving attention to ISO 27001 Voet Verhuur took some measurements that prepares them for the risk of hostile software. Not much later they even had to deal with such issue.” The implementation of the ISMS is also being praised. “The company took up to 2 years to implement the ISMS, allowing it to get used to the culture and pace of the company”, says the auditor. Not only internally, but also externally Voet Verhuur benefits from ISO 27001. According to the auditor, by digging deeper into this standard they are better aware of the risks involded in information protection and can communicate better with their software suppliers.

ISO 27001

Implementation and enforcement Safety Culture Ladder

For all signatories, clear enforcement is important for the safety and health culture and a level-playing field. For a contractor who does not or no longer meets the requirements, this can lead to a notice of default and, in extreme cases, to rescission of the contract. The same applies tot private signatories. Although stopping the work because of one of the (sometimes many) contractors does not compl with ViA is not an obvious course of action. Here, too, the ultimate consequence is a cancellation of the contract and replacement by another qualified contractor.

Implementation

After earlier delay because of the corona crisis the Veiligheid in Aanbestedingen will be implemented on January 1st 2022. “For the past 2 years we have been communicating about the viA”, says GCVB chairman Koene Talsma. GCVB clients will use the Safety Culture Ladder in tenders and contracts as a selection criterion, award criterion or contract requirement.

  • Contract requirement: regarding a contract requirement the certification can be shown up to 90 days after the award.
  • Selection and award criterion: when it regards a selection or award criterion work is always given to a party that matches all criteria. All signatories, including clients, are certified or are going to get certified.

HLS becomes HS, what does that mean?

High Level Structure (HLS) is the system that contains all common structures of the ISO standards. HLS ensures that standards connect seamlessly with each other by, among other things, a set of core requirements that are the same for all standards. This is especially useful when several standards are assessed at the same time within a company.

In May 2021, the updated variant of HLS was launched: Harmonized Structure (HS). From now on, the HS will be included in all new and future ISO management systems.

The changes in a nutshell

There are no major changes in terms of content. However, some parts will become more concrete and others will get more space for individual interpretation. All changes in a row:

  • Met het opnemen van termen en definities in de HS wordt er naar verwachting meer transparantie en duidelijkheid gecreëerd.
  • Recording the needs and expectations of stakeholders becomes more important. A company may decide for itself how many and which stakeholders it will record, but it must substantiate its choice.
  • Change management has been made the same for all management systems and standards.
  • It is no longer necessary to document information in a fixed format.
For which standards?

All ISO standards that NCI Certification is allowed to certify fall under the renewed Harmonized Structure. It concerns ISO 9001 (quality management system), ISO 14001 (environmental management system), ISO 27001 (information security) and ISO 45001 (health and safety management system). More information about these standards can be found on our website.

User-friendly SCL Webtool

The SCL Webtool is a useful tool for companies. The online environment makes it possible to carry out a self-assessment as part of the certification process. The SAQ report, plan of action, statement and the GAP report can both be placed in a file within the web tool. You as a user can give third parties, for example an auditor, access to these documents.

More user-friendly

For an even more user-friendly experience, a number of updates have been made:

  1. The questionnaire has been rewritten so that everyone understands it.
  2. For non-performing organisations, explanatory notes have been added. This way, architects, engineering firms and consultants can translate the questions to their own situation.
  3. Some questions were given a general explanation to make them easier to interpret.
  4. Several web pages have been updated. For example, tips have been added for administrators on how the questionnaires can be used effectively within the company.
  5. PDFs of the questionnaires are available free of charge for subscribers. They are intended for internal use and consultation.

ISO 27001 change

ISO 27001

Securing private data has never been more important. You, your customers and other stakeholders do not want your personal data to end up on the street due to a data leak or hack, for example.

ISO 27001 for your company

ISO 27001 is an international standard that describes how you can deal with securing information. It demonstrates responsibility and integrity in areas such as data protection. Is ISO 27001 only for large companies? No, this certification is for all organisations that deal with the process of personal data.

Curious what we can do for your business? Request a non-binding quotation or make an appointment with one of our employees.

Change of management measures

After eight years, the ISO 27002 standard is being modernised. ISO 27002 is the part of the ISO 27001 standard that contains the management measures related to information security. The content of these measures will change, which means that 96 of the current 114 will remain. ISO 27001 only changes because of the links to ISO 27002 in annex A.

The new version will not be implemented immediately, but will have a transition period of three years. The revised version will be published between Q4 2021 and Q1 2022. We will inform you as soon as the publication date is known.

We understand that you may have questions. To answer them, we will organise a webinar in the first half of 2022. More information will follow.

Level restriction for Safety Culture Ladder products

NEN has decided to introduce a level restriction for certain Safety Culture Ladder products. As a result, not all products can be used for assessment on all levels.

Handbook SCL version 4.0

A new version of the SCL 4.0 manual has been published on the NEN website. This incorporates the ‘loose documents’ (which were previously listed separately) including, for example, audits with offshore in the scope.

Handbook

ViA implementation date remains 1 January 2022 despite COVID-19 lockdown

Despite COVID-19, the implementation date of ViA remains January 1, 2022. This decision was taken because the work in the construction industry is not at a standstill. In addition, NEN has instituted a temporary measure that allows ‘remote audits’ to be carried out in respect of office functions.
